SUNY Adirondack Edges Onondaga in Extra Innings, 9-8
SYRACUSE, N.Y. —
SUNY Adirondack Softball jumped out to an early lead and delivered in extra innings to earn a 9-8 victory over Onondaga Community College in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader.
The Timberwolves came out swinging in the top of the first inning, scoring four runs. EmmyLou Richards tripled in a run, Emma Martens followed with an RBI single, and Marissa Jarvis plated two more with a lineout.
Trailing 8-5 in the sixth, SUNY Adirondack tied the game thanks to Morgan Randall's RBI triple and Maddie Pincheon's inside-the-park home run.
With the game deadlocked at eight heading into the ninth, Sam Manning stepped up with a go-ahead RBI single to give the Timberwolves the lead for good.
Manning also earned the win in the circle, tossing all nine innings. She allowed eight hits and eight runs (seven earned), striking out four and walking 12.
SUNY Adirondack tallied 13 hits in the game. Pincheon led the offense with a 2-for-5 effort and two RBIs. Randall, Maddy Wasserman, Alyssa Jaffe, and Pincheon each recorded two hits. Richards drew two walks, and the Timberwolves showed discipline at the plate with five total walks. The team also applied pressure on the bases, stealing five, including two by Wasserman.
The Timberwolves turned one double play on defense to help secure the win.
SUNY Adirondack will look to complete the sweep in Game 2 of the doubleheader later Saturday.
