Timberwolves Fall to Finger Lakes in Game Two Despite Early Power Surge on Sophomore Night
Queensbury, N.Y. –
SUNY Adirondack saw an early lead slip away in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, falling 12-4 to Finger Lakes Community College after an explosive 11-run fifth inning by the visiting Lakers.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, the Timberwolves erupted with three solo home runs from EmmyLou Richards, Emma Martens, and Maddy Wasserman to jump ahead 4-1 and energize the home crowd on Sophomore Night.
However, Finger Lakes flipped the game in the bottom of the fifth, stringing together six hits and taking advantage of multiple walks to plate 11 runs and put the game out of reach. The biggest blow came on a two-run double from their cleanup hitter.
Wasserman started in the circle for SUNY Adirondack, striking out six over 4.1 innings while allowing nine hits and 12 runs. At the plate, Richards led the Timberwolves with two RBIs, going 1-for-2 on the day. Contributing hits for SUNY Adirondack were Richards, Martens, Wasserman, and Natalie Conroy.
Despite the loss, SUNY Adirondack was clean defensively, playing error-free softball. Morgan Randall led the defense with six chances in the field.
The Timberwolves wrapped up the day's twin bill with a win and a loss, celebrating the contributions of their sophomores with strong energy and offensive highlights throughout both games.
