Martens Walks It Off with Grand Slam on Sophomore Night as Timberwolves Top Finger Lakes
Queensbury, N.Y. –
Emma Martens delivered an unforgettable finish on Sophomore Night, blasting a walk-off grand slam to center field to seal SUNY Adirondack's 18-7 win over Finger Lakes Community College in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
Martens had a monster day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with six RBIs. She opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first, added an RBI double in the fifth, and capped it all off with a dramatic grand slam in the sixth to end the game in walk-off fashion.
The Timberwolves offense came out hot, scoring in each of the first four innings. Natalie Conroy and EmmyLou Richards contributed early with key hits in the second inning to extend the lead. In the fourth, Adirondack showcased its power with back-to-back solo home runs from Conroy and Richards, followed by a sacrifice fly from Maddy Wasserman to make it 9-5.
The Timberwolves broke the game wide open in the sixth, scoring seven runs on seven hits. Maddie Pincheon and Jenna Fantasia each drove in runs before Martens launched her game-ending grand slam — a perfect cap to an already electric night.
Sam Manning picked up the win in the circle, going the distance and striking out three over six innings of work.
SUNY Adirondack racked up 20 hits in total, with Martens, Richards, and Conroy each tallying four. Randall and Wasserman added multi-hit games, while the Timberwolves showed sharp defensive work, turning three double plays and committing no errors.
