Fourth-Inning Surge Sinks Timberwolves in Game Two
Buffalo, N.Y. –
A strong start by SUNY Adirondack wasn't enough to hold off a powerful SUNY Erie lineup, as the Timberwolves dropped the second game of Saturday's doubleheader 17-3 after a massive 16-run fourth inning by the Kats.
Adirondack briefly took control in the bottom of the third inning after Emma Martens tied the game with a single, and EmmyLou Richards followed with a go-ahead RBI to give the Timberwolves a 3-1 lead. However, SUNY Erie responded with an explosive fourth inning, collecting 11 hits and capitalizing on timely hitting to surge ahead.
Left fielder EmmyLou Richards led the Timberwolves offensively, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Alyssa Jaffe also recorded two hits, and Adirondack showed good plate discipline, working four walks on the day.
Sam Manning started in the circle for SUNY Adirondack, allowing nine runs over 3.1 innings. Grace Szpylman earned the win for SUNY Erie, giving up three runs on six hits while striking out three over four innings.
SUNY Erie's offense proved relentless, finishing with 13 hits and eight walks. Mikayla Gallivan led the charge with a 3-for-4 performance, while Olivia Ball, Carly Fraser, and #33 each drove in three runs.
Despite the loss, the Timberwolves showed fight early and will look to bounce back in their next contest as they continue to gain experience and grow as a team.
