Timberwolves Upset No. 9 Herkimer at Home, 88–73
Queensbury, N.Y. —
The SUNY Adirondack men's basketball team delivered a statement win on its home floor, knocking off nationally ranked No. 9 Herkimer College, 88–73, on Friday night. Herkimer entered the contest as last season's national championship runner-up.
The opening ten minutes featured a tightly contested, back-and-forth battle before the Timberwolves seized control. Adirondack broke the game open behind sharp ball movement and a stifling defensive effort, building momentum that carried through the remainder of the night.
Freshman Oscar Lilac led all scorers with a career-high 27 points, catching fire from beyond the arc by knocking down 7 of his 9 three-point attempts. Lilac's shooting provided a spark that energized both the bench and the home crowd.
The Timberwolves also received major contributions across the lineup. Sophomore Messiah McLaurin recorded a double-double with 13 points and a career-high 14 assists, orchestrating the offense and setting the tone with unselfish play. Freshman Mekhi Walker added an impressive double-double off the bench, finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds to provide a physical presence in the paint.
With disciplined execution on both ends of the floor, Adirondack maintained control down the stretch and closed out one of the program's most significant wins of the season.
The Timberwolves will look to build on the momentum as they continue Region III play in the coming weeks.
