Bio

Maxx Sweet, a dedicated basketball coach and proud SUNY Adirondack basketball alumnus, has exemplified leadership and excellence since taking over the Timberwolves program in 2021.

Under his direction, the program has reached historic milestones, including:

  • The first winning record and playoff victory in more than 25 years

  • 7 wins over nationally ranked top-10 opponents

  • 12 players named to the Dean’s List, while guiding the program to its highest team GPA on record

  • Back-to-back Top 5 Region 3 finishes and the program’s first-ever playoff bye, advancing further than any team in school history

  • The second-most single-season wins (18) in school history during the 2024–25 season

Most importantly, Coach Sweet has built a culture of success that extends far beyond the court, graduating student-athletes who go on to thrive in their careers and lives. SUNY Adirondack Director of Athletics Julie Clark praised, “Coach Sweet’s success isn’t just measured in wins on the basketball court; but by the growth, unity, and resilience cultivated within each player that has participated in the program. He is a winner on and off the court.”

Before returning to lead SUNY Adirondack, Coach Sweet spent six seasons as an assistant coach at Eastern University, Centenary University, and Hiram College, where he spearheaded national recruiting efforts and helped each program achieve sustained success.

He has also been recognized on the national stage, serving as a head coach at the NCAA Men’s Basketball Academy in Memphis, TN (2023) and Rock Hill, SC (2024), working with some of the nation’s top prospects.

Coach Sweet earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Eastern University and a Master’s in Athletic Administration from Northcentral University.

In addition to coaching, he serves as Assistant Director of Athletics at SUNY Adirondack. He lives in Queensbury, NY, with his wife Bridget and their two sons, Parker and Cameron.
