SUNY Adirondack Falls to SUNY Broome 10-3 in First Game of Doubleheader
QUEENSBURY, N.Y. —
SUNY Adirondack dropped the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, falling to SUNY Broome Community College 10-3.
The Hornets took an early lead, scoring three runs in the top of the third inning. Nicholas Ragonese singled to left field, followed by Jacob McTigue's single down the right field line. Jason Kithcart Jr. added a sacrifice bunt, pushing across the third run of the inning.
SUNY Broome extended their advantage with a six-run rally in the sixth. Kaiden Cannistra singled in a run, and an error allowed another. Carmelo Alessandro's sacrifice fly scored one, while Kithcart Jr. and Zechariah Clouston each added RBI singles to cap the inning.
Despite the late surge by SUNY Broome, SUNY Adirondack got on the board early with a strong performance from Juan Cornelio, who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. However, the Timberwolves struggled to generate additional offense against Kithcart Jr., who earned the win for SUNY Broome, allowing just one earned run over six innings while striking out six.
Dylan Cavanaugh took the loss for SUNY Adirondack, going four innings and allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits. Cavanaugh struck out three and walked one.
SUNY Broome was led offensively by Alessandro, who went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs from the eighth spot in the order. McTigue also added two hits, while Ragonese stole three bases to lead the Hornets, who totaled five stolen bases in the game.
The Timberwolves were unable to generate much offense beyond Cornelio's efforts but showed resilience and fought until the end. The team will look to bounce back in the second game of the doubleheader.
