SUNY Adirondack Overpowered by Herkimer in Doubleheader Opener
HERKIMER, N.Y. —
A massive 16-run fourth inning proved too much for the SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves to overcome, as they fell 19-2 to the Herkimer Generals in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.
The Timberwolves got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Christian Mikulski grounded out to score a run. Herkimer responded in the bottom of the second with a solo home run to center field by Mike Schleider, tying the game at 1-1.
The Generals took the lead in the third, capitalizing on a dropped third strike and a defensive error to bring in two runs and go up 3-1.
Herkimer broke the game wide open in the fourth, scoring 16 runs on 10 hits. Key moments in the explosive inning included a two-run homer by Dylan Wolfson, a three-run blast by Hugo Kohnhorst, and Schleider's second home run of the game—a three-run shot to center. The Generals also saw RBI contributions from Shiryu Sato, Obiel Sanchez, Jacob Severson, and Henry Tolentino during the inning.
SUNY Adirondack added its second run in the fifth on an RBI single by Aiden Parslow, but the deficit proved insurmountable.
Peter Baltis took the loss for SUNY Adirondack, allowing 12 runs (11 earned) on 11 hits over 3.2 innings. He struck out two and walked four. Herkimer's David Denten earned the win, pitching five innings and giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits, with two walks.
Parslow and Mikulski each recorded a hit for the Timberwolves, with Parslow driving in one run.
Herkimer tallied 16 hits overall, led by Sato's perfect 4-for-4 performance. Schleider powered the offense with two home runs, three runs scored, and four RBIs. Kohnhorst added five RBIs on two hits, while Sanchez, Schleider, and Jaden Madrid each collected multiple hits. The Generals also showed discipline at the plate, drawing seven walks and stealing three bases.
