SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves Fall to Herkimer Generals 5-1
Herkimer, N.Y. — The SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves dropped a 5-1 decision to the Herkimer Generals on Tuesday, despite a strong pitching performance from Ben Viggiani.
Herkimer took an early lead in the second inning when Obiel Sanchez singled, bringing home the first run of the game.
SUNY Adirondack answered in the bottom of the fourth inning. Nysir Bickley doubled to right field, driving in the Timberwolves' lone run to tie the game at 1-1.
However, Herkimer seized control in the fifth inning, scoring four runs to extend their lead to 5-1. The Generals capitalized on an error, followed by a two-run triple by Zowen Collins and a walk by Sanchez that scored another run.
Evan Staroba earned the win for Herkimer, dominating on the mound with a complete game, allowing just two hits and one run over seven innings. He struck out 14 and walked six.
Viggiani, the starting pitcher for SUNY Adirondack, gave a solid effort despite the loss. He allowed six hits and five runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking four.
Bickley was the offensive standout for the Timberwolves, going 1-for-3 and driving in the team's only run. Tommy Bishop also collected a hit in the game.
Sanchez and Collins led Herkimer's offense, each driving in one run. Collins went 2-for-3, while Sanchez had an RBI single. Herkimer also proved aggressive on the bases, stealing three bags in the contest.
SUNY Adirondack will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they continue their Region III play.
