Timberwolves Drop Game One at Hudson Valley Despite Early Lead
Troy, N.Y. –
SUNY Adirondack got off to a strong start but couldn't hold off a powerful Hudson Valley offense, falling 13-6 in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader.
The Timberwolves opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Charlie Gendron drove in a run with a single. After Hudson Valley responded with four runs in the bottom half, Adirondack battled back to tie the game in the second, helped by a single from Tommy Bishop and a defensive miscue by the Vikings.
SUNY Adirondack briefly regained the lead in the third, 6-4, taking advantage of another Hudson Valley error and a bases-loaded walk by Riley Derenzo. But the Vikings swung momentum back in their favor with five runs in the fourth and continued to add on with home runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Dylan Cavanaugh started on the mound for Adirondack, striking out four over 3.1 innings. He was tagged with the loss after allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits. At the plate, the Timberwolves spread the offense around with hits from Gendron, Bishop, Peyton Richardson, Aiden Parslow, and Ryan Reagan. Adirondack also showed good patience at the plate, drawing eight walks, with Derenzo and Jack Taylor each earning two free passes.
The Timberwolves will look to bounce back in the second game of the doubleheader as they continue to push forward in Region III play.
