Vikings End Timberwolves Hot Run
Queensbury, N.Y. —
A massive nine-run fifth inning proved to be the difference as the Hudson Valley Community College Vikings defeated the SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves 16-2 on Saturday.
HVCC opened the scoring early, putting up four runs in the first inning. Nico DeSanto delivered a two-run single, followed by RBI contributions from Tyree Jackson and Aidan Heffner. Brendan Connolly also scored on a sacrifice fly to give the Vikings a 5-0 lead.
They added another run in the third on an RBI single from Carson Jenkins-Antle, pushing the lead to 6-0.
The game broke open in the top of the fifth, when the Vikings exploded for nine runs on just three hits. Matthew Carrera singled home two runs, Logan Norman grounded out to bring in another, and a pair of errors contributed to additional scoring. Connolly added an RBI single, Heffner walked in a run, and a fielder's choice from Niko Sorice plated two more as HVCC ran away with the game.
Cody Nelson got the start for SUNY Adirondack, lasting just one-third of an inning while giving up five runs on four hits. Tyler Spenard was dominant on the mound for HVCC, tossing five innings of two-run ball (both unearned) while scattering five hits, striking out eight, and walking two.
Offensively, Charlie Gendron led the Timberwolves with one RBI and a 1-for-3 performance. AJ Cowles, Christian Mikulski, Dylan Cavanaugh, and Ryan Reagan each added a hit for SUNY Adirondack.
The Vikings compiled nine hits as a team, with Carrera and Heffner both collecting two. Jenkins-Antle, Jackson, and Carrera each drove in two runs. HVCC showed patience at the plate, drawing 11 walks, and aggressive baserunning, stealing eight bases—led by Jackson with two.
Despite the tough loss, the Timberwolves will look to regroup as they head into the next stretch of their season.
