Adirondack Completes Doubleheader Sweep with 14-9 Win Over Jefferson Cannoneers
JEFFERSON, N.Y. —
The SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves finished strong to complete a two-game sweep of the Jefferson Cannoneers, winning 14-9 in Friday's second game of their doubleheader.
Despite a late push from Jefferson, SUNY Adirondack's offense proved too much, as they collected 10 hits to Jefferson's 14.
The Timberwolves struck early, plating six runs in the first inning. Aiden Parslow doubled to score one, followed by Christian Mikulski's two-run homer to center field. Braiden Bley forced Peyton Richardson into a fielder's choice, but another run came in. Dylan Cavanaugh doubled to drive in another, and a steal of home added yet another run for a 6-0 lead.
SUNY Adirondack added five more runs in the fourth inning on just two hits. Charlie Gendron singled to score two, Richardson walked to bring in a run, and Gendron tagged up to score on a sac fly. Another steal of home completed the five-run frame for the Timberwolves.
Matt Case started on the mound for SUNY Adirondack, allowing nine hits and four runs over 3.2 innings. He struck out four and walked two. Jefferson's starter, Bley, took the loss after giving up seven hits and 11 runs (seven earned) over four innings, with three strikeouts and four walks. Patrick Messineo relieved for the Timberwolves, tossing a scoreless inning while giving up just one hit, striking out one, and walking none.
The Timberwolves were patient at the plate, drawing seven walks, led by Riley Derenzo and Gendron, who each walked twice. SUNY Adirondack also stole three bases during the game.
Parslow and Ryan Reagan each collected two hits for the Timberwolves, and Gendron, Mikulski, Richardson, Cavanaugh, and Reagan each drove in two runs.
For Jefferson, Robert Leyva and Ryan Murnane each had three hits, with Murnane leading the team with four RBIs. Allen Benton and Anthony Celar added multiple hits for the Cannoneers, and Benton and Oiram Williams each stole multiple bases. Jefferson swiped six bases in total and turned one double play.
With the win, SUNY Adirondack capped a successful doubleheader sweep and will look to continue their momentum moving forward.
