Adirondack Walks Off in Game One Thriller Against Mohawk Valley
QUEENSBURY, N.Y. —
The SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves secured a dramatic 7-6 walk-off victory over Mohawk Valley Community College in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader.
With the score tied at six in the bottom of the eighth, Charlie Gendron delivered the game-winning hit — a clutch double that drove in the decisive run.
Christian Mikulski led the charge offensively, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. His standout performance included a triple in the sixth, and singles in the first, third, and eighth innings. Mikulski also showcased his speed on the base paths, stealing three bases.
The Timberwolves got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs. Mikulski opened the scoring with an RBI single, followed by a two-run double from Juan Cornelio and an RBI single by Peyton Richardson.
Mohawk Valley answered in the fifth, taking a brief lead after Clemente was hit by a pitch to force in a run and Defazio singled to bring in two more.
SUNY Adirondack tied the game at six in the bottom of the sixth when Riley Derenzo drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Patrick Messineo picked up the win for the Timberwolves, throwing 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit while striking out two. Chris Bedard contributed three innings in relief, giving up three runs on five hits. Starter AJ Cowles went two innings, allowing three runs on three hits.
Mohawk Valley's Boughner took the loss, giving up the winning run in two-thirds of an inning. Starter Burdick pitched six innings, surrendering six runs on 11 hits.
The Timberwolves pounded out 14 hits in total. Cornelio and Mikulski each drove in two runs, while Richardson, Derenzo, and Aiden Parslow had multiple hits.
Despite the loss, Mohawk Valley collected 11 hits and played error-free defense. Leos and Rauth had two hits apiece, and Defazio led the team with two RBIs.
