Adirondack Baseball Rallies Late to Earn 8-6 Win Over Fulton-Montgomery in Game Two
JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. –
SUNY Adirondack bounced back in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader, using a five-run sixth inning to fuel an 8-6 victory over Fulton-Montgomery Community College.
The Timberwolves struck early in the top of the first, jumping out to a 3-0 lead behind an RBI hit-by-pitch from Jack Taylor and a two-run single by Charlie Gendron. Fulton-Montgomery responded with five unanswered runs across the second and third innings to take a 5-3 lead, but Adirondack refused to back down.
In the top of the sixth, the Timberwolves erupted for five runs on just one hit, capitalizing on timely walks and a costly Raiders error to retake the lead. Taylor and Gendron each finished the game with two RBIs, while Riley Derenzo, Christian Mikulski, and Aiden Parslow added one hit apiece.
Caleb Nelson was dominant in relief, tossing four strong innings and allowing just two hits and one unearned run. The right-hander struck out nine and walked two to earn the win. Starter Tyler Scorzelli went three innings, surrendering five hits and five runs (three earned) with one strikeout and one walk.
SUNY Adirondack showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks in the game. Taylor and Ryan Reagan each earned two free passes, while the Timberwolves ran wild on the bases, stealing five bags as a team.
Fulton-Montgomery was led by Ryan Savoie, who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Tyler Safran, who also notched a pair of hits. Despite a strong start, Savoie took the loss on the mound after allowing eight runs (three earned) over 5.2 innings.
The split moves SUNY Adirondack forward with momentum as they head into their next series.
