Prof. Li was named "Coach of the Year" (2008, 2011, 2013, 2014) by Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference and "Coach of the Year for District A" (2013) by National Junior College Athletic Association.
Prof. Xiao Li started his teaching/coaching career as an assistant professor of physical education in Wuhan Institute of Physical Education in 1981 after receiving his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education there. Prof. Li’s physical education credential also includes: Master of Art in Education from Hebei University (1986), Master of Science in Physical Education from University of Wyoming (1990) and Adv. Study in PH. D. program at University of Oregon (1991). Prof. Li joined SUNY Adirondack faculty in 1991 after years of teaching and coaching in Wuhan Institute of Physical Education, Hebei University, University of Wyoming and University of Oregon.
Prof. Li started coaching varsity Volleyball at SUNY Adirondack in 2002 after coaching women’s varsity soccer from 1991-2000. Prof. Li’s varsity volleyball coaching record up to 2014 season is 197-123. Prof. Li’s coaching philosophy is: Education through athletic training to develop teamwork, discipline and self confidence. A coach's role is to help student athletes to learn, to improve and to reach their athletic potentials. Prof. Li received SUNY Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence in 2014.
